Mildred Blue was a well-known Catawba Indian Master Potter who created earthenware with skills passed down from her great-great-grandmother, Rhoda George Harris
. Blue was particularly known for her detailed miniatures, such as turtle effigies. She passed away in 1997.
She was a master potter and her pieces are in museums as well as sold at auctions to fetch fair amounts. The last time a piece of her potter was sold was Oct 23rd 2021, by Case Antiques. She never sold this piece as it was a gift to a fellow tribe member and master potter Florence Wade. When Florence passed the pottery was almost lost but luckily I know the family and was allowed to scavenge the items left to be destroyed.
The turtle isn't in perfect shape, and it loo but it is still a great little piece of pottery. The item will come exactly as shown. The color vary slightly due to lightning. Sold AS-IS, No Returns.
